Liam Hughes-Butler is a self-taught guitarist from Denver, Colorado currently studying Jazz Guitar under Julian Lage at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. At age 12 he was accepted into the Denver School of the Arts where he began to focus on Jazz and Classical music. A member of the 2017 Jazz Band of America, 2015-16 Colorado All-State Jazz Band, and winner of more than 25 soloist awards from 10 different jazz festivals, Liam was also a member of DSA’s prestigious Jazz Workshop Orchestra. JWO has won “Best High School Jazz Band” from Downbeat Magazine 2016 and 2017. JWO was also invited to Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Essentially Ellington Competition in 2017 where they won 2nd place. Among these achievements, Liam has also been fortunate enough to receive lessons and workshops from Kurt Rosenwinkel, Jonathan Kreisberg, Melissa Aldana, Terell Stafford, Ron Miles (Denver’s own), and was in a weekly group directed by Shane Endsley of Kneebody. These are just a few of the musicians Liam has been fortunate enough to work with. He performed professionally with Sean Jones, Julian Lage, and many more of his musical heroes! Liam is very excited to bring his quartet to Dazzle in August! The program will feature some of his original music as well as some of his favorite music written by other composers.
The quartet is composed of some of the nations finest young musicians and people.
