Join the Citizen Oversight Board (COB) for a discussion about incarceration in Denver. We'll focus on the special report release Monday by the Office of the Independent Monitor, which reveals new details about the 2015 in-custody death of Michael Marshall and raises troubling concerns about the subsequent Denver Sheriff Department Internal Affairs Bureau investigation.
Pizza and childcare will be provided.
Parking available at Central Baptist Church, 2400 California St, Denver, CO 80205.
— 6:00 — 6:15: Introduction to Citizen Oversight
— 6:15 — 6:45: Special Presentation by the Independent Monitor
— 6:45 — 7:00: Question & Answer
— 7:00 — 8:00: Community Talkback
During the community talkback, COB members will break out into small groups with community members to hear questions, concerns, and detailed input. Your input will be reported back to the board as a whole and will help inform our priorities and actions going forward. We rely on your participation to help create the best possible jail system for Denver.
The COB conducts civilian oversight of the Denver Police Department and the Denver Sheriff Department. Civilian oversight is an ever-evolving field designed to provide communities with a voice in how law enforcement is conducted.
The COB mission: «to foster systemic change towards cooperative, just, and accountable relationships between Denver's community members and law enforcement.»
