McNichols Civic Center Building
144 W. Colfax Avenue, Denver, Colorado 80202
You are invited to Dorothy Tanner's Lumonics Mind Spa: Stretching the Body, Mind and Spirit installation that opens at the landmark McNichols Building in Civic Center Park on Saturday Jan.13. Hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the weekends, and 9 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and free to the public.
The Lumonics Mind Spa is a site-specific art installation created for the first floor community space. It features light sculptures by Dorothy and the late Mel Tanner, and music and video by Dorothy Tanner and Marc Billard. Several wall sculptures from the new Tanner Script Series have never been shown before.
Dorothy Tanner’s intention for this meditative environment is for everyone to experience new ways to stretch the body, expand the mind, and achieve greater spiritual awareness. A series of daytime and evening events are also planned. The closing date is Sunday, May 27.
Previous exhibits of Tanner light sculptures include Union Station, Denver International Airport, and the Lakewood Cultural Center. In 2017, the Museum of Outdoor Arts (MOA) presented, Then & Now: A Retrospective of Light-Based Sculpture by Dorothy & Mel Tanner. MOA produced a documentary about the Tanners and the Lumonics art form.
Special thanks to Shanna Shelby, Program Administrator, Denver Arts & Venues, and to the McNichols Building Cultural Partner Program.
