Calling all readers! Mark your calendars for BookBar's First Annual Children's Book Festival. Bring the whole family to celebrate all things kid-lit. Meet award-winning Colorado and visiting authors & illustrators at a festival of readings and story times, illustration and writing workshops, a carnival of our bookish community partners, magic, food and more! Dress up as your favorite books character for a prize. Kids and their families of all ages are welcome. Read, snack, and discover new favorite books to share.

10 AM — 2 PM: Readings, story times, face painting, magic, festival food, mingling with our community partners in literacy, and more throughout the day

11 AM: Illustration Workshop with Cathy Morrison

12 PM: Writing Workshop with Denver Writes

1:30 PM: Mini concert with children's band, Snack Time

Readings and story times will be performed throughout the day at BookBar by the following authors and illustrators

About Jason Gallaher
JASON GALLAHER is a children’s book writer who fell in love with detective work while watching episodes
of Blue’s Clues. He solved the mystery of what to do when he grew up and became an author when he learned being
a merman is impossible (at least for now). Jason lives in Austin, Texas, with his Pomeranian, Pom Brokaw, who is a

About Amy Fellner Dominy Author

AMY FELLNER DOMINY is an author of teen and tween novels, including DIE FOR YOU, A MATTER OF HEART,
AUDITION & SUBTRACTION, and OyMG, a Sydney Taylor Notable Book for Teens. Amy is a former advertising
copywriter and earned an MFA in playwriting. Her plays for adults and children have been staged across the

About Jean Hanson:

Jean Hanson's essays and short stories have appeared in numerous magazines, including North American Review, Zoetrope, Indiana Review, Nimrod, New Letters,and Alaska Quarterly Review. She has received a Pushcart Prize nomination, an artist fellowship in fiction from the Colorado Council on the Arts, the Hackney Prize, the Writers Repertory Award, the Literal Latte Essay Prize, and a Writers Exchange Award from Poets & Writers. She is a graduate of the Iowa Writers Workshop. Jean Hanson has published award-winning short stories and essays for adults. The 5,000 Friends of Veronica Veetch is her first children’s book. Todd Mitchell is an award-winning author and teacher. About Heather Preussner:

Heather Preusser earned a BA in English and art history from Williams College, an MA in education from the University of Colorado, and an MFA in creative writing from the University of Southern Maine. In her debut picture book, A SYMPHONY OF COWBELLS (Sleeping Bear Press, March 2017), a Swiss dairy cow loses her bell and disrupts the harmony of the herd. When not writing, Heather teaches high school English, bikes the European countryside, and attempts to learn ridiculously long German words. She and her husband reside in Colorado. About Donna Cooner's Books

Donna Cooner was born and raised in Texas. She is a three time graduate of Texas A&M University. A former teacher and school administrator, she now teaches teachers and principals at Colorado State University where she is the director of the School of Teacher Education and Principal Preparation. She lives in Fort Collins, Colorado, with her two labs and a cat named Stu. She's a big fan of chocolate and laughing (not necessarily in that order).

Donna is the author of over twenty picture books and was a founding member of the Brazos Valley Society of Children's Bookwriters and Illustrators. About Cathy Morrison

Cathy Morrison is a children’s book illustrator passionate about nature, science and the environment. Combining her degrees in fine arts and education along with her background in animation and graphic design, she now researches and digitally illustrates “creative nonfiction” picture books that read as a story, but are based on facts. These books feature additional classroom guides, downloadable activity sheets and related websites so the curious reader can continue to explore the topic. Our mission is to provide young writers in the Denver area with a supportive community and creative opportunities to express themselves through writing.
