11:00am--12:30pm — Speeches (including speeches from Jeanette Vizguerra and Tay Anderson!)
12:30pm — March! We will march towards the State Capitol, and walk around it 3 times, making sure to completely encircle it (we're looking for someone with a drone who will take a photo). The final time we circle the Capitol, we will recite a quote from the Declaration of Independence, which will be provided at the march. «But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.»
IMPORTANT: THIS IS ABSOLUTELY, 100%, A NON-VIOLENT EVENT. THERE MAY BE COUNTER-PROTESTORS BUT DO *NOT* ENGAGE!!!
Tables and organizations are welcome! Please set up on either side of the upper steps of the amphitheater and note that tents/canopies are not allowed, nor can you sell any items (you of course can do *donations*, though!) We ask if you are going to set up a table that you please be willing to take The Solidarity Pledge.
Some water will be provided, so please bring refillable bottles!
The Imeachment March-Denver is about more than just impeaching Trump. It's about bringing communities together to stand in solidarity with one another to remove the systematic structures in our government that elected a President who not only doesn't represent us, but actively works against our very livelihoods. This march is about the people, and therefore no sitting politicians will be allowed to speak at this event.
We know that impeaching Trump is a huge step, but it is only the beginning of a very long staircase on the path to a government that is truly by and for the people, not just the rich and powerful. We see the inspiring passion and energy the Trump administration has triggered amongst the community, yet we also see the infighting.
We REFUSE to allow those stronger, and more powerful than us to divide us. We know they use everything they have to keep us aimed at each other, because the rich and powerful are not the majority in this land, WE ARE! And it is time for us to use our collective power or risk losing it!
At the Impeachment March, we seek to unite everyone's efforts in creating something that continues to benefit us long after Trump is gone. We believe that by working together to support laws that have been written by the very communities they affect, we can enact great change. It's time to stop being REACTIVE to this administration, and start being PROACTIVE in creating a new system that gives the power back to the people!!!
Colorado is unique in the fact that everyday citizens can draft initiatives to be voted on--however, they need a certain number of signatures to get the initiative on the ballot in the first place. That is why we are asking organizations, community leaders, and indivduals like you to take The Solidarity Pledge.
The Solidarity Pledge is in its earliest stages, and therefore a fluid concept at the moment, but at its barest, it is a commitment by those who sign it to take direct action (e.g. supporting legislature, attending meetings) that benefits ALL communities, not just their own, as well as help block any agenda that is harmful to these communities.
We will hold monthly meetings with those who have signed The Solidartiy Pledge to moderate how best organizations and individuals can give their support, the first of which is tentatively scheduled for July 31, 6pm at Hooked on Colfax.
In a year, we will hold another rally to show our representatives our steadfast committment to each other, and to show them that if need be, we are willing to remove them from office and replace them with individuals are are TRULY committed to benefiting the people!!!
DO YOUR JOB OR LOSE YOUR JOB
DENVER REASONS WHY WE MARCH FOR IMPEACHMENT
There are a number of cases that can be brought against Trump for impeachment, however, the greatest injustice of his administration has been the systematic attack upon the inalienable rights of the American people, and the ultimately, the sheer disrespect and disregard he has shown for our Constitution.
Amendment 1: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
What freedom of religion is there when we institute a ban based on religion?
What freedom of press is there when American journalists are banned, yet Russian journalists invited into the White House?
What freedom of assembly is there when states pass laws condemning the actions of one as all? When our own President dismisses his constituents as “paid protesters” or sore losers?
Amendment 4: The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
How can people be secure in their homes when ICE agents impersonate police officers to gain entry to homes? How is stop-and-frisk a legal search when the probable cause is being black?
Amendment 8: Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.
How can we say we are a free country when our Native citizens are half-drowned with water cannons in freezing temperatures? When ICE agents use psychological threats like putting detainees children in foster care, and forcing them to sleep on concrete floors? When our black brothers and sisters are routinely MURDERED in the process of being arrested, or shortly thereafter??
Our Bill of Rights and our Constitution is meant to “establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity”. This 4th of July weekend, join us in taking The Solidarity Pledge, in the hopes of presenting an updated verstion of the Bill of Rights for our rally next year.
NATIONAL REASONS WHY WE MARCH FOR IMPEACHMENT
Donald Trump has been in violation of the Constitution from the day he was sworn into the office of President.
We cannot abide a Congress that turns a blind eye to the constitutional breaches of our Commander in Chief. We demand that Congress does its job and commences with impeachment proceedings immediately.
GROUNDS FOR IMPEACHMENT
President Trump must be impeached under Article II, Section 4 of the United States Constitution for Treason, Bribery, or High Crimes and Misdemeanors, in particular:
(1) Obstruction of Justice. Article 2, Section 1.8. of the Constitution Sets forth the oath of office: “I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will do to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”
In his conduct of the Office of President of the United States, Trump in violation of his oath faithfully to execute the Office of President of the Unites States and, to the best of his ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, and in his duty to take care that the laws be faithfully executed, has prevented, obstructed, and impeded the administration of justice in that he:
1a. Interfered with the Department of Justice of the United States and Federal Bureau of Investigation by dismissing officers and investigators conducting investigations as to his illegal activities, including Preet Bharara the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Salley Yates, the Deputy and Acting Attorney General of the United States, and James Comey, the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
1b. Made false and misleading statements the people of the United States to deceive the people that investigations as to his misdeeds and those of his subordinates were and are being conducted thoroughly and completely with regard to his misconduct and the misconduct of his subordinate
1c. Failed to provide information regarding General Flynn’s dealings with the Russians to the House Intelligence Committee.
(2) Violation of the Foreign Emoluments Clause Article I, Section 9, Clause 8
[N]o Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince or foreign State.
The framers of the Constitution created this clause to ensure that US officials would not be corrupted by gifts or payments from foreign powers, yet President Trump receives a constant stream of cash and favors from foreign powers and their agents.
Inconsistent with the practice of all modern era Presidents and the expectations of the public, he has refused to place his business assets into a blind trust in which he would have no control over the assets and decision making of his businesses, but instead, directly and/or through his family continues to control his businesses and receive business revenues. The single largest tenant of Trump Tower is the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, a wholly state-owned company. The Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority office holds a lease with Trump Tower. Foreign diplomats and foreign embassy events at Washington’s Trump International Hotel. More than an obvious conflict of interest, receipt of any monies by him or his businesses under his control of him or his family from any foreign government or representative of a foreign government is a present or emolument in direct violation of the United States Constitution.
Trump has financial relationships with businesses and governments throughout the world, including Turkey, the Philippines, India, Great Britain, Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Brazil, Bulgaria, and Viet Nam. Most importantly, he has financial dealings with Russia and China, the extent of which are largely unknown and will remain so as long as he refuses to release his tax returns as has been done by all modern era Presidents, a promise upon which he reneged.
These conflicts of interest have not only enriched Trump, buy have undermined our national security.
(3) Violation of the Free speech rights of the citizens and the press.
Has denied access to the White House by certain members of the press and publicly villified the press by calling them enemies of the people in violation of the First Amendment Rights of the people and his duty to protect the Constitution of the United States.
(4) Treason. Article III, Section 2 of the United States Constitution defines treason in part as giving “Aid and comfort” to our enemies.
By condoning hacking by the Russian Government of a major political party and encouraging dissemination of hacked materials for purposes of political gain and by condoning unauthorized, unsecured meetings with Russia and other governments he has breached the security of the United States.
(5) Libeled and slandered the former President of the United States with criminal intent.
Trump maliciously and intentionally maligned President Obama by accusing the former President of wiretapping him. Making a false allegation of a crime is a crime.
(6) Issuance of a travel ban in Violation of the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment, the Establishment Clause of the 1st Amendment and the due process clauses of the fifth and fourteenth amendments.
6a. The order singles out persons because of their religious preference in violation of the equal protection clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.
6b. Because the order bans individuals from specific Muslim countries, it establishes a religious test in violation of the establishment clause of the First Amendment.
6c. The travel ban gives the Secretary of State and the Secretary of Homeland Security almost unlimited powers without procedural protections in violation of the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments.
Donald Trump’s extreme disregard for the Constitution is a profound subversion of the Office of the President. Neither do we feel our country is in safe nor able hands, and we will not quietly ride out a tenure that threatens our democracy and way of life. We demand that Congress stop enabling President Trump through an embarrassing and potentially catastrophic charade of normalcy. The future of American Democracy rests in their hands.
CONGRESS: DO YOUR JOB, OR LOSE YOUR JOB.
IMPEACH DONALD TRUMP NOW.
